The Really, Really Big Earring
Shoulder-dusting, sculptural and gloriously excessive — fall 2026's statement earrings are the opposite of the everyday hoop.

Somewhere between the last tennis necklace and the first chunky collar, the earring grew. And grew. By the fall/winter 2026 shows, it had become one of the most dramatic accessories on the runway.
Bigger than ever
Elle declared that the statement earring had somehow become bigger than it has ever been — blown-up, supersized and turned into monumental objects. These shoulder-dusting pieces were seen at Valentino, Saint Laurent and Dior among others, and they went well beyond the usual chandelier or oversized stud. Rhinestones, animal motifs and geometric metal were all on the table, as long as the result was bold.
It fits the wider picture. Who What Wear's British edition described brazenly avant-garde shoulder-dusters as part of a season in which jewellery finally abandoned restraint. And Cosmopolitan observed a parallel taste for vintage- and heirloom-inspired earrings — the kind that look as though they were found at an estate sale.
How to wear a big earring
- Pull your hair back. A low bun, a sleek ponytail or a tucked bob lets the earring do its work.
- Mind the neckline. Bare necks, turtlenecks and high collars all frame a statement earring well; busy necklines compete with it.
- Skip the necklace. One focal point is enough. Let the ears carry the look.
- Try a mismatched pair. Asymmetry — two different earrings, or a single dramatic one — feels personal and very of the moment.
- Shop vintage. Costume jewellery from past decades is an affordable, characterful way into the trend.
The takeaway
The big earring is the quickest transformation in fashion: put one on and a simple outfit becomes an evening look. This season, there is no such thing as too much.
